ASDES Social Group Trip to Clyne Farm
On the sunny morning of Saturday 20th June a large group of us travelled down to Clyne Farm for another great social group activity. We had discussed all the activities available and I had booked sessions for members to go horse riding, indoor climbing and have instruction in archery. Everyone had filled in their registration forms to ensure that they could safely participate in their chosen activities. The farm is situated in the Mayals area of Swansea and has stunning views all across Swansea and Port Talbot; it was such a lovely, clear day, in fact, that we could see over to the Devon coast!
Rachel, Emma and Rhys, accompanied by Stephen, our job coach, were measured up for hats and allocated horses that were appropriate for them. They were shown how to mount the horse safely and given instruction on trotting gently before setting off. Everyone was very excited to meet their horse. As they started on their journey around the farm, Carwyn, Alex, Nathan and Artyom were being set up for their archery lesson; this took place indoors and they all learned to handle a bow and had many opportunities to practice and improve their skills. Everyone enjoyed this and was able to choose a selection of music to accompany the session!
When the riders returned from their walk, they were able to refresh themselves in the cloakroom and prepare for the indoor climbing session. Rachel, Emma, Rhys, Carwyn and Stephen had been brave enough to attempt to scale the heights of the climbing wall. They were provided with safety helmets and harnesses and given instruction in safe techniques. There were various stages to try and those of us watching encouraged them and cheered them on as they made progress climbing higher up the footholds onto various platforms on the course.
Following the sessions, we went into the refreshment area, where there were drinks and snacks available; there was much chatter and laughter about the morning and many people took photos. We all agreed that it had been a really enjoyable and fun outing and this stimulated much conversation about trying other activities or continuing to enjoy further sessions in the future.
It was really rewarding to see everyone trying new activities, especially in the indoor climbing, where it proved quite a challenge. Well done everybody for taking part and setting new goals.
